Our Lady of Fatima (Gladys Gollahon)

Frenzy Cool must have a big event coming up, because she’s looking for another backing, this time for this old chestnut. It was a hit for Red Foley in 1950 and was recorded several more times in America. Frenzy Cool recommended the Aiza Seguerra version. This version is from 1950 and sounds like it.

With no music to go on, I fed the tune into Band in a Box, which found the chords easily enough and the melody was guessed, so it might be approximate. This follows the Seguerra arrangement exactly.

Our Lady of Fatima, we come on bended knee

To beg your intercession, for peace and unity.

Dear Mary, won’t you show us, the right and shining way?

We pledge you love and offer you a rosary each day.

We promised at Fatima each time that you appeared

To help us if we pray to you to banish war and fear.

Dear Lady on first Saturdays, we ask your guiding hand

For peace and guidance here on earth and protection for our land.

(key change)

Our Lady of Fatima, we come on bended knee

To beg your intercession, for peace and unity.

Dear Mary, won’t you show us, the right and shining way?

We pledge you love and offer you a rosary each day.

We pledge you love and offer you a rosary each day.

We used to sing this at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Cincinnati Ohio in 1950 or 51 and were told it was written by a lady in our church.

can I download the music? how to download this minus one of the song?

  4. Jackie Jurewicz says:

The sheet music I have has the following words before the two verses.
Ave Maria Ave Maria The heavens were opened our Lady appeared at Fatima one day to tell us again of the great need for prayer; as Her children we answer this way. The copy I have was written by Gladys Gollahon. All the pieces I have heard on Utube do not include the above line. Can you tell me where I can find a rendition that includes this line? Thank you for your help.

    Hi Jackie,
Andy Williams recorded the verse. Here is a link to a YouTube recording of it.

Also Tony Bennett recorded the verse. He sang more of it, as opposed to all chorus.

I need to know if we need to have permission to print the sheet music of “Our Lady of Fatima” by Gladys Gollahon and copyrighted by Robbins Music Corporation/. Our choir would like to sing it in honor of the 100th appearance of Our Lady in October.

  8. Josephine Campbell says:

I would like the full version with verses and key change for piano keyboard

    Thanks.

  9. Gabriel says:

Josephine, you should get a copy on eBay. There are always plenty available. They all include the “Ave Maria” verse and the full chorus.

  10. Jean Hunter says:

I just saw this post on Sept. 18th, 2021. I was from Norwood, Ohio, just a few minutes from St. Cecilia’s in Oakley and I, too, know this song from the early 1950’s. A lady who lived down the street from me had a “block rosary” at her house every Friday and were told that a friend of her’s wrote this song. We had a whole group of young kids from the neighborhood who attended this block rosary and we recorded this song from a radio my mother had that also made records. I have the record in my possession, but nothing that I can play it on. It is a small record, about the size of a 45, but smaller.
