I don’t remember hearing this one before and it will be one to remember for Lent next year. It is by Bob Hurd and he uses sources from Isaiah, Phillipians and John’s Gospel for the excellent text but it is the tune that stands out. Definitely written for an assembly but with enough spark and difference, especially in the verses, and some neat structural novelties – repeating 3/4 of the refrain the last time – to make it most memorable. Much as I love loud guitars, I struggle with Lent songs like that and this one is the necessary antidote.
