Rounding out the hymns relating to St Peter, Chris suggested this one from Bulimba parish last year.
The tune is called WEBB and is by George J. Webb and is best known as the tune for a notoriously militaristic hymn “Stand Up Stand Up For Jesus” that I had to sing as a youngster in the Presbyterian church.
The text is at Bulimba parish but I will put a link to it here as well. I have no idea who wrote it but would love to know.
Apologies for my backing but take it as revenge for having to sing the old hymn so many times all those years ago. It still can be used to learn the song.
As some recompense what about these hymns to Sts Peter and Paul?
They are verses that have been written as optional Verse 2 for an older hymn “By all your saints still striving” (or originally “For All Thy Saints in Warfare”).
I’m currently working on a write-up for it: There’s a bit of research to do, checking which of the many optional 2nd verses are actually now public domain. And I’m pondering modernising the language – there are a few where places where “thee” is pretty much essential given the rest of the text.
The good news is that it’s been set to lots of other tunes besides WEBB. In the States, SINE NOMINE appears most common, but there have been plenty of others, too.

My distaste for the tune is from the text with which it is associated for me. I suspect many people might only know the tune from its more acceptable uses.
