As I Kneel I Before You

Mary’s parish used this song (aka Ave Maria) written by Maria Parkinson. Not knowing anything about this song my suspicion is that it is a local Irish product.

The verses are English and the refrain Latin as you can see in the text here. This seems more a song for personal devotion than for liturgy. I couldn’t find any site on the net selling the sheet music.

D’Arne and I have sung this recently, without accompaniment.
    1st time: once through, complete
2nd time: First voice sings the English part.
When the Latin part starts, the second voice joins in with the English part, in a round.

We chose a more flowing tempo as there is no accompaniment to pad out the time.

This is a song recorded decades ago by Dana.

we want to sing this song in our parish; do I need copy rights?

I’m trying to think of a situation where you wouldn’t.

I suppose if the songwriter gave you direct permission or if they had specifically waived their rights or if the song was in the commons or public domain.

That is not the case here. This song is covered by One Licence.

      cheers

I know the songwriter Maria Higgins (nee Parkinson), who lives in Dukinfield Manchester UK. ?Written in late 1970s
I can’t guarantee, but I don’t think she would have a problem with anyone singing it
