Gathering Song: Glory and Praise to Our God (D Schutte/New Dawn Music) GA 417
    Psalm: read
Preparation of the Gifts: Isaiah 49: I Will Never Forget You (C Landry/New Dawn Music) GA 472
    Communion: Only a Shadow (C Landry/North American Liturgy Resources) AOV1 133
Thanksgiving (keyboard only): The Load is Near / May the Angels (Michael Joncas) GA 457
Recessional: Blest Be the Lord (D Schutte/New Dawn Music) GA 458

The Joncas piece is new to me. I could probably find a few calmer pieces for reflection time … but I was just going down the list of “Trust” in GA and thought a new one is a good one for me. I find CWB2 less helpful in the index section, and the accompaniment books way too heavy for the keyboard I play on. Not sure if anyone else is using CWB2 much.

oh dear … should have typed the Lord is Near …

      • Ming says:

I will be playing the keyboard on Ash Wednesday at 6:30am.

I have yet to decide on a couple…

Gathering Song: Blest be the Lord (Dan Schutte) GA 458
Blessing and Distribution of Ashes: ?
Preparation of the Gifts: A Trusting Psalm (K Bates) GA 455
Communion: Hosea (G Norbet) GA 213
        Thanksgiving: ?
        Recessional: A New Heart for a New World (T Watts & M O’Brien) GA 438

I would like to know of choices at other churches, thank you.

      G’Day Ming

I’m almost up to “The Lord is Near” in my survey of songs from Gather Australia. It was new to me too and I think it is fine tune but I think it would need a cantor for the verses if you ventured beyond instrumental.

I gather we are supposed to be getting CWB2 but it has not materialised yet.

With most parishes on starvation budgets for music liturgy and often using overheads, I’m remain to be convinced that an expensive book with much that appears in other resources is a necessity and if it is not in a convenient format for your keyboard it won’t help. Do they just expect you to make illegal photocopies?

        Geoff,

D’Arne and I went to one of the launch events for CWB2 and we bought both the people’s edition and the two volume accompaniment edition at a discount. Our parish does not have a copy, as far as I know.

At the launch, we were given some handouts and we were taught some of the new pieces. I remember liking a few. The weight of the accompaniment books (the metal stand for the church keyboard will collapse) makes it no very practical. Gather accompaniment is great. Gather Standard is also heavy.

I hope to switch to the chant mass setting for Lent.
