Hi Geoff,
Thanks so much for providing this resource. I find it really helpful. Especially it allows me to explore "new" hymns in our church's hymnals.
Please keep up the great work!

In reply to <a href="https://www.sixmaddens.org/about/#comment-84988">Greg Schiemer</a>.

G'Day Greg

Firstly can I be at a mass led by banjo? - sounds a great idea.

I couldn't find the satellite gamelin app in the apple store unfortunately.

I am always happy to let people know about unpublished or out of print music to make it available.

I am trying to remember that most of what I hold dear will be in skip within days of my death - it's good for perspective.

cheers

Dear Geoff,

I’m writing on the off-chance your server still has capacity to include unpublished hymns. Hope of Pilgrims was originally called Pilgrim Song when I wrote it in 1966. It first appeared in 1981 on a self-funded cassette production titled Songs for a Pauper, a King and a Jester. Chevalier Press published sheet music in an issue of Annals to coincide with the cassette release. I recently extended the refrain and revised the lyrics with old and new testament references in common vernacular rather than ecclesiastical English. The new version was used recently as a communion hymn and most of the congregation were singing by the final refrain — and most weren’t around in 1981. For the past 5 decades I have accompanied congregational singing using a 5-string banjo. I’m not interested in liturgical publication but if people could continue use the hymn freely unencumbered by copyright restrictions that would be better than letting it end up in landfill along with my computer when I’m no longer around.

I’ll send you a DropBox invitation where you can access sheet music and lyrics and an mp3 file so you can decide. If you’d like the keyboard arrangement simplified please don’t hesitate to ask.

P.S. My website will shed light on music that has been my day job.

Best wishes

In reply to <a href="https://www.sixmaddens.org/about/#comment-83913">Sherry Watson</a>.

You are welcome, Sherry.

What impressed me most with PTG, was augmenting the usual sources with songs from small Australian collections in the preAOV environment. There are musicians at our little church who would happily use PTG and nothing else, but I have to admit I'd never seen a copy until I came to Tasmania.

cheers

Hi Geoff,
I was so tickled to see that you've been going through the Glory To God hymnal.
I was in at ground zero with that one as I was involved in Music Ministry at St. Dominic's Camberwell, Victoria at the time, as was Fr. Nick Falzun OP who compiled it (with huge effort!)
Such a blast from the past.
Once again, your blog has been enormously helpful in providing information.
Only this week, one of our local Parish musos sent me his plan for OT 14C and included PTG 317 "Gift of Peace" attributed to "G Habjan" and with a mix of inclusive and non inclusive lyrics.
As I'm responsible for making the relevant slide deck, I went down the rabbit hole to verify his facts, and came up with Madden gold!
Blessings

Michael I would recommend the refrain of the Melchizedek Alleluia. It’s very guitar friendly with a 70’s vibe

Another very useful source these days is YouTube. While, sadly, Australian churches and singers seem to rarely use this facility, there are many U.S. recordings, some with just music, for the specific purpose of teaching choir members. Additionally, one can download the videos to mobile devices: its probably not a good idea to directly run from the Internet during Mass.

It's a pity Willow didn't produce a set of music-only recordings from As One Voice for use in the classroom, but I suspect the fear they would be freely shared would have made it a difficult commercial decision. It's also a pity they don't include midi recordings of everything they sell as part of the package simply because any music score produced on a computer is going to have midi output as an option, so its really a minor production expense, and they do this for Amanda McKenna's psalm settings.

I've used the free mp3 converter at audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-mp3 for a number of years, and it does a much better job than my computer!

Finally, if you are interesting traditional style hymns (not necessarily old lyrics), there's my website, https://liturgyshare.org. The piano recording are from midi files and are easiest to sing with, but are very basic, while the organ recording are sourced from smallchurchmusic.com with an adjusted number of verses and transposed when necessary to a congregational friendly key.
