I know the gospel acclamation is a very minor part of the Mass, but I thought I’d comment that we’ve also been using Barbara Bridge’s Christmas Season Gospel Acclamation this year and found it excellent. Adapted from the traditional Sussex Carol, the melody of the acclamation is joyful and easy for the congregation to pick up; and each chanted verse ends with an additional alleluia or two. Unusually for gospel acclamations, most verses have different melodies – more work to learn, but works well with the different text lengths and contexts. A minor problem – due to my limited vocal range, I transposed it down a step.
