Thanks, Ryan. If I am doing songs from American sources, I’ll come across these songs and they are expanding my knowledge of inculturated liturgical music.

We have extremely diverse populations in Australia, but no one group dominates as Spanish speaking people seem to in Catholic churches in the USA. I hope my backings don’t sound like caricatures of Latin arrangements.

(Las Posadas, which means “lodging” in Spanish, is a Latin American tradition of reenacting Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to stay in Bethlehem.) For this song, a handful of our school’s older students sang the verses in English and the rest of the school responded with the refrain in Spanish.

We did a few other songs from OCP’s Las Posadas collection along with some traditional carols in English. I know Spanish isn’t nearly as common in Australia as it is here in the US, but if anyone is interested in that collection, here’s a link:
