This is one of my favourite modern hymns. Over the last few years, a friend and I frequently sang this as a joyous recessional at Mass, using the original words. I did not know about the substitution of “Lord” for “Yahweh”, but I prefer the original in any case. Thank you anyway for a wonderful site where one can read and learn more about these hymns and songs.

This song takes me back to my High School Days in Port of Spain Trinidad & Tobago where we sung this many time at our morning assemblies in the Marion Hall all 500 of us girls. God Bless you always xx

Thank you so much for the words of Yahweh is the god of my salvation. I have wanted them for sometime without seriously searching. I prefer to use Yahweh as it gives a more ancient feel to this beautiful hymn.

In the last week I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Yahweh has given me this refrain as a great encouragement… Talk about a song from the past!!! I am now 59years of age.
HE has also given me words from Bro Lawrence in “The Practice of the Presence of God”
Personally I like Yahweh…. that speaks of the Ancient of Days the Alpha and the Omega…. God has become such a disrespected name.
Praise HIM for being in control

We use ‘The Lord is the God of my salvation’ as it fits in better with the tense of the rest of the words.
