Love is the Greatest Gift of All (AOV 2/86)

This is a wedding song by Erica Marshall.  It is basically a solo, but the assembly has a small part to sing and the chorus can be replaced by prayers for the bride and groom. The extract at AOV can be heard here. It is based on 1 Cor 13 and could be used outside of a wedding, I suppose.

Chorus

If I speak in words of wisdom

Without love my song has no meaning.

If I know the secrets of this world of ours,

Without love my knowledge is untrue.

Even if my faith could move away a mountain,

Even if I gave away ev’rything I own.

Antiphon

It is love, it is love,

Love is the greatest gift of all.

Verse 1

Loving is patient and kind,

Love is not jealous or proud,

Love is not rude or selfish,

True loving never ends.

Chorus (or prayer for the bride)

Antiphon

Verse 2

Loving delights in the truth,

Love is not happy with shame,

Love never gives up hoping.

True loving never ends.

Chorus (or prayer for the groom)

Antiphon

Coda

Love is ready to excuse, to trust, to hope.

Love is ready to endure whatever comes.

It is love, It is love

Love is the greatest gift of all!
