This Day God Gives Me TIS 642 … and Christ Be Beside Me

These songs are both by James Quinn SJ, both set to BUNESSAN and both have inspiration from the Breastplate of St Patrick.

The text for “This Day God Gives Me” is at spiritandsong where the sheet music can be purchased for download. There is some background and suggestions for its use in prayer at npm. The hymnals that have this song are noted at Hymnary.

There are other versions of the sheet music for BUNESSAN at Hymnary.

I’ve already blogged the tune here.

While “This Day Gives Me” is a new one for me that RS’s parish used at Easter, “Christ Be Before Me” is quite familiar. The text is here and Hymnary have sheet music and a list of the hymnals that have this song.

A lovely harp instrumental of Bunessan

  1. Yola says:

For This Day God Gives Me, we use the David Haas accompaniment from GIA (Item #: G-3950) – in 4/4 rather than 3/4, musically a little more sophisticated and easier for people to sing to. The L’Angelus youtube video captures the joyful spirit of this version.
