I’m still putting up the music selection from my previous parish, because they are well considered. I’ll probably switch to my own once I’m up and running at the new parish later in the year.
They are switching to the Mass of Glory and Praise until Lent. They use Amanda McKenna’s very singable Psalm responses and I encourage you to purchase her book at As One Voice. They sing the Celtic Alleluia, which is an enthusiastic Gospel Acclamation with plenty of verses to fit any liturgy.

I’m having a random troll through the Never Too Young collection trying to find songs that are in the gap in the 2000s from OCP, that were too late for As One Voice.
This Carey Landry and Larry Theiss song is from the 1990s, so it is a bit early but it is a Eucharist song so I thought I’d look at it. Many of the songs for young people in this collection really have nothing that prevents more general use, but this one really is for children. The refrain can be used as a round, which might work for school liturgies.
OCP sell the arrangements here, suggesting recorders be used, and the text is in their preview.
I eschewed the use of recorders in my simple backing.
I don’t think I’ve come across this psalm setting before. It is by Sarah Hart and Curtis Stephan and it is in the collection, Never Too Young. Psalm 91 is suitable right through Lent if you are looking for a seasonal psalm.
The refrain is syncopated but singable and the cantor will have fun with the verses. The sheet music can be purchased at OCP where the text is in their preview.
This is a gathering song from Never Too Young by Mark Friedman that is call and response and bilingual (Spanish / English) if that is what your assembly needs.
The sheet music can purchased at OCP where the text is in their preview.
Merry Christmas from humid stinking hot Queensland. I will actually spend Christmas in Tasmania, where the temperature is more sensible, and by March I should be back playing for masses in the little town there, that I have been gradually moving to for some time.
Feel free to note any ideas for Christmas or songs from Christmas masses that piqued your interest for future reference.
Entrance: Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Psalm 83 (McKenna)
How happy those who dwell in your house, O Lord.
Gifts: In Love We Choose to Live (Cotter) AOV 2/63
Communion: Gift of Finest Wheat (Westendorf/Kreutz) CWB II 651
I’m selecting songs from the collection Never Too Young, looking for OCP hymns that got missed in the 2000s.
This is a Timothy R. Smith song from 2005 that would work as a rousing Easter recessional. The verses are probably for a soloist but the assembly can participate in the refrain. It is a highly syncopated country rocker. As with all the songs I have looked at so far from NTY, I can see nothing that suggests these songs are exclusively for young people.
I am engaged in an exercise to plug the gaps, looking for songs published after As One Voice. For OCP songs, I am using selections from Never Too Young, a collection designed for the youth.
This is song from 2005 by Mark Friedman and Janet Vogt. So far all the songs I’ve looked at are fine for adults as well and not in any way made easy for the kids. This one, for example, has a ferocious range, so despite being a lively gathering song it is probably best for a choir.
An MP3 can be purchased at OCP but it is not available as a downloadable piece of sheet music there. Some approximate lyrics are here. Listen to their recording to get them accurately.
This is a song with a text by Paule Freburg that is set by Christopher Walker. It is from 2006 so it is filling in a gap. Despite being in Never Too Young, there is nothing here that necessarily says it is a young person’s song, and I suppose it could be a choir piece or a recessional. There is a key change for the last verse.
This one’s sheet music is available from OCP , where the text is in their preview.
I made more of an effort than usual to make it swing.
I've worked my way through the As One Voice books and other collections making backings on Band in a Box to help me (& you if you're interested) learn new songs for church. This is aimed at churches and musicians that own the collections but haven't exploited them fully. If you don't have them they are certainly worth buying. This site is educational, nonprofit and designed to enhance the commercial prospects of songwriters. This site does not distribute copyrighted sheet music.
