I had to get the chords from Together in Song, which reminds me that its melody line edition has many advantages over the accompaniment edition of CWB II – size, price, chords, etc. I got the bass notes from CWB II to make the backing better, but I could have got them from Hymnary as well.
This is a tricky one because it is a French song by Jean-Paul Lécot (and Sr Licia Fay – she may have assisted with the translation because she is not mentioned on any French sites) called Fais nous revenir à toi. The music is by Paul Décha.
I guessed the chords based on the French version below.
I can’t find the text anywhere in English or French, but it sounds great in French.
Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with you.
Blest are you among women,
and blest is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus. Jesus.
Blest is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us
Pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Hail Mary, full of grace.
Our Lord is with you.
Blest are you among women,
and blest is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus. Jesus
Blest is the fruit of your womb,
Jesus.
As I may have mentioned before BIAB CAN’T DO CHANT!
So this time I just had some fun.
This is a text that is copyright to GIA (1989), so I won’t reproduce it here, however there is no sign of it on the GIA website and I can find no other source for the text, so it’s CWB II or nothing for now. If anyone knows a way to purchase the words and sheet music outside of CWB II please let me know.
If you want to know how the tune of this chant really sounds, it’s like this:
Stepping back into Voices As One Vol 2 for a break from the traditional hymnody of CWB II takes me to this setting of Psalm 27. There are plenty of settings of this psalm out there but this is a relaxed, nicely laid back one by Ed Bolduc if that is what is needed.
The verses have significant differences in their tunes, especially the third, and will definitely need a cantor.
The sheet music can be purchased at WLP where the text is in their sample.
Taylor’s “Mass of St Francis” is being used for Advent, and the assembly changed gears today without a hitch. There is merit in only having two settings.
Entrance: Prepare the Way of the Lord (Boniwell) CWB II 250
Wreath: Christ Circle Round Us (Schutte)
Psalm: To You O God, I Lift Up My Soul (Hurd) AOV 2/14
Gifts: Blessed be Our God (McKenna) AOV NG 13
Communion: Bread of Life (Farrell) AOV 1/164
Thanksgiving: Emmanuel (Angrisano)
Recessional: A Voice in the Wilderness (Robinson) AOV 1/60
I’ve somehow managed never to have blogged this song, but it is so well known it is no discovery. The song is by John H. Hopkins Jnr. Hymnary have the background.
I put a BIAB backing to a MIDI found on the net with predictable results.
We three kings of orient are,
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
Refrain
Oh, star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright.
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect light.
2. Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain,
Gold I bring to crown him again
King for ever, ceasing never
Over us all to reign.
3. Frankincense to offer have I,
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray’r and praising, all men raising,
Worship him, God most high.
4. Myrrh is mine it’s bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Seal’d in the stone-cold tomb.
5. Glorious now behold him arise,
King and God and sacrifice;
Alleluia, Alleluia,
Earth to the the heav’ns replies.
I've worked my way through the As One Voice books and other collections making backings on Band in a Box to help me (& you if you're interested) learn new songs for church. This is aimed at churches and musicians that own the collections but haven't exploited them fully. If you don't have them they are certainly worth buying. This site is educational, nonprofit and designed to enhance the commercial prospects of songwriters. This site does not distribute copyrighted sheet music.
