One Faith VAO 2/323

This is a belter from John Michael Talbot’s youth. It’s really too fiddly for an assembly but is a passionate solo vehicle.

The text is here. I can’t find the sheet music to purchase anywhere, other than Voices As One Vol 2, obviously, but it might be worth contacting the people at his website.

My backing is is a jig.

Called by Steph Unger

This is the song for the Brisbane Catholic Education Year of Youth written by Steph Unger.

The text is here.

I gather music teachers and APREs have been given the song to use this year and we may be singing it at church. It’s a distinctive and attractive song and the key change from D to F is an exciting leap.

For those who wish to sing along I have made a rough backing.

It’s meant to have didgeridoo all through but BIAB doesn’t do didg.

Open My Eyes VAO 322

Continuing my series on Voice As One Vol 2, I can skip “O Taste and See” and “On Holy Ground” because I have covered them already elsewhere.

I have already blogged this song as well here, but this version has the bridge after the second verse so I though I would revisit it.

The text is here with the bridge, here after the third verse. At OCP the Spanish sheet music has the bridge but the English doesn’t – odd.

For what it’s worth I don’t think the bridge adds anything and makes it less amenable to an assembly – it is for performance.

My backing tries for the 6/8 feel and includes the bridge.

No More Fear VAO 319

This song by Aaron Thompson is suggested for Good Friday but I’m sure there are many other liturgical occasions for consolation. The text is powerful and the repetitions effective.

The sheet music is at WLP where the text is in their sample pages.

My backing has some improvised BIAB guitar doodling but can still be sung along to.

Wood of the Cradle

This song by Francis Patrick O’Brien was used at Ryan’s parish for Christmas and would be a lovely solo to link Christmas to Easter.

The text and details about the author are at Hymnary. The sheet music can be purchased at GIA.

Nothing VAO 318

I’ve already blogged Angrisano’s “My Soul is Thirsting” here, so that brings me to Chris Rice’s song “Nothing” in Voices As One Vol 2.

It’s another one that is probably for private devotion rather than liturgy.

The lyrics are here. I has trouble finding the sheet music but if you don’t want to get VAO, I think it is in this collection at sheetmusicplus.
