This is the last of the Rory Cooney songs that were requested by Frenzy Cool. It is a lovely simple tune but I’m struggling to place it with a liturgical function.
This is another Rory Cooney song requested by Frenzy Cool who is obviously a fan of Cooney’s. It is a gently Gospel styled waltz.
The sheet music is available at GIA and I have a copy in Gather Comprehensive 325 although the chords in my backing are guesswork.
The lyrics are at Cooney’s blog. There is a fourth verse that is rather too specific to its time and twenty-seven years later can be dropped. The whole conceit of “walk in the rain/reign” only works if you can see the lyrics.
This is another request for a Rory Cooney song. I’ve got “Jerusalem, My Destiny” in Gather Comprehensive 399. I don’t find the tune likely to be conducive to assembly singing and it goes too high for groaners like me – maybe bring it from Bb down to G.
For the first time in forever I am not playing at a Christmas Mass and I’m actually flying somewhere on Christmas Day. The music at our local church is pretty fixed for Christmas, which is a good thing I suspect.
I’m spending some time living in a small town where I hope to retire in ten years or so now, so I’ll be playing there about once a month and will still fill in at times at my usual parish. I’m over my various minor illnesses for the most part and am hoping the blog will be more active next year as things become more settled.
I’d be delighted for people to share their Christmas selections in the comments section and wish anyone reading this the hope found in the Christ child.
I've worked my way through the As One Voice books and other collections making backings on Band in a Box to help me (& you if you're interested) learn new songs for church. This is aimed at churches and musicians that own the collections but haven't exploited them fully. If you don't have them they are certainly worth buying. This site is educational, nonprofit and designed to enhance the commercial prospects of songwriters. This site does not distribute copyrighted sheet music.
