The Supper of the Lord GAB 516

This Eucharist hymn by Laurence Rosania turned up at RS’s parish recently.

The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at OCP. The sample you can hear at OCP is no great shakes but I think there is a pretty good song in there.

My backing has the descant line off to one side. There is also a descant line in the last verse if you make it that far.

Going by the number of You-Tube clips, this song is in high rotation in the US but is new to me. Here’s a selection:

Noel

Brentwood Benson keep sending me e-mail links to free lead sheets from Chris Tomlin’s album “Adore”. Since it will Christmas soon I’ll keep looking at them. The words and music are by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash and Matt Redman.

This one is a solo vehicle and is sung by Lauren Daigle. You can hear her version at worship together. This is the link to the lead sheet and the full sheet music can be purchased here.

A Blind Man Sat Beside the Road

This song turned up at Ryan’s parish when the gospel was about blind Bartimaeus. The text is by Herman Stuempfle and it is set to St Anne by William Croft, which I have blogged here.

The text is in this You Tube clip:

Hail Queen of Heaven

This was a request for a MIDI file for this old chestnut, that my wife could sing from memory. It was written by Father John Lingard and my backing is just a render of the MIDI file.

Godsongs have helpfully aggregated the lyrics, the sheet music and You Tube clips so there is nothing more for me to do with this one.

We Will Bring Your Peace

This is the second song with words by Maria Millward and music by Damien Halloran that is scheduled for a family mass next Sunday. Like, “Welcome to God’s House”, it is from the collection Great Stories and Songs available at As One Voice where you can also hear a snippet of the song and purchase the MP3.

The music appears to suggest a repeat of the chorus each time, but I’m not sure if that is a great idea.

The text is here (scroll to page 5).

Welcome to God’s House

This is one of two songs that we will be singing next Sunday that the school children know. They both have words by Maria Millward and music by Damien Halloran. This is where BIAB comes into its own for strummers like me, allowing me learn from the backing.

It is what the label says, a welcoming song that children will be happy to sing.

The text is in this document. As One Voice have a link to buy the MP3 and the sheet music is in the collection Great Stories and Songs that can also be purchased at AOV. Once we’ve established that you are buying this at AOV, I also note that GIA has it for sale with some extra background details that you may wish to look at.

Gospel Acclamation: Mass of the Angels and Saints

This is pretty specific request for the Alleluia from Steven Janco’s Mass of the Angels and Saints.

You can preview and purchase the whole thing at GIA and it does sound very grand.

I’ve done a simple backing for “Alleluia” repeated six times.

I haven’t had a serious look at the rest of the mass – does anyone use or recommend this one?

Alleluia! Hurry, the Lord Is Near GAB 28

Getting back to the OCP Guitar Accompaniment Book from 2005, there is this song with a text by Patrick Lee set to a tune by Ernest Sands. The refrain has an echoing harmony line that would seem necessary to make it work.

The text is in the sample and the sheet music can be purchased at OCP.
