This is a contemporary hymn from Ed Bolduc. The refrain is in a different key from the verses, which seems to spark things up a bit.

My backing is a little heavy handed.

James V. Marchionda wrote this song invoking the actions of the Holy Spirit, so it’s useful at Easter and Pentecost in particular.

The song can pretty much go as long as you want substituting wisdom, courage, mercy, etc for “power”.

My backing gives out after two verses.

Rex requested this song and I can only applaud his zeal for preparation – it’s not even August.

It is a neat idea, putting the Gloria familiar from carols in The Gloria.

In the preview I note that Paul Gibson who arranged this asked that no guitar chords be provided but “the guitarist may improvise chords if desired.” That was a challenge beyond my musical skill but I found a technological work around and came up with two versions.

I’m back from a week at beautiful Kingscliff in Northern NSW where the cycle paths are inviting, the cafes are full of wonderful food and you can watch whales from the balcony of your holiday unit.

This is another gathering song, this time by Carol Dinese and Cathryn Howard. The text allows its use as a communion song as well and you can find it in the sample at WLP where you can also buy the sheet music. It says cantor or all but this is fine for an assembly.

The tune for the last two lines of each verse sounds awfully familiar – any guesses as I can’t place it.

This song matched the gospel the other week and was used at Ryan’s parish.

The words are delightful and are by Carl P Daw. The text is at Hope Publishing, the home of some of the best hymn writers around. I couldn’t find the music suggested there, but I noted GIA set it to MADRID, which works a treat.

Ryan mentioned this song in a comment here and Mary’s parish recessed to it recently.

I’ve played it a couple of times years ago and had trouble because the sheet music didn’t match how the assembly had decided to sing it since time immemorial. They improved it a lot from memory and belted it out. It is, of course, THE recessional!
