In the Brightness (AOV 1/70)

I can’t find out anything about Robyn Horner on the net other than that she is an Australian composer of Catholic music. You can hear a snippet of this song here. I’ve never heard of it but it is a sweet ballad. The lyrics are less direct than most and I like it.  The guitar version I have of AOV has an error, second note third last line p123, should be an A not an G#. I also think the last note can’t be a C – probably an A.

This may be another lost classic worth another look.

 Verse 1

In the brightness of the dreaming,

Freedom dances in my soul.

This is God alive, redeeming,

Dreaming me into a whole,

The best I can be.

Lord, it’s in the darkness of the yearning

Where I fear to give you all,

Knowing that the fire that’s burning

Burns away even the core.

I no longer see.

Chorus

Take this life you’ve given me,

Take this soul that wants to be free,

Take my heart and dream your God dreams,

Recreate lovingly.

Verse 2

In the dimness of the knowing,

Who would brave to take the path?

Yet you beckon on, bestowing,

Courage where I’m faint of heart.

Lord, help me believe.

For it’s in the fullness of the dying

That I find that loss is love.

Sometimes in the midst or crying,

Help me remember the dove,

Your hope to receive.

Chorus

Coda

In the brightness of the dreaming,

Freedom dances in my soul,

This is God, alive, redeeming,

Dreaming me into a whole,

Dreaming me into a whole.
