Music for the First Sunday in Advent Year C 1st/2nd December 2012

The liturgy team for this week has selected these songs for the first week in Advent.

For the lighting of the candle we have adapted a New Zealand liturgy where the stars of the Southern Cross are represented by the four Advent candles.

We are still using Mason’s Mass of Glory and Praise but will be substituting his acclamation with Haas’s Advent Gospel Acclamation that takes through to Christmas and beyond:

Entrance: Christ Be Our Light (Farrell) AOV 2/3

Psalm: To You O God I Lift Up My Soul (Hurd) AOV 2/14

Gifts: I Have Loved You (Joncas) AOV 1/126

Communion: I’ll Be Always Loving You (Watts) AOV 1/82

O Come, O Come Emmanuel (Neale/Helmore) AOV 1/174

Recessional: Sing Out Earth and Skies (Haugen) AOV 2/32)

  1. Chris says:

Our parish music program is the following. We are on Mass Shalom (which we changed about 6 weeks ago), but we will change over to “Save, Us Saviour of the World …” for our Memorial Acclamation.

Gathering: Jesus, Come to Us – D. Haas (AOV/148)
Played as instrumental music during procession and start of introductory rite. Candle is lit and then three proclamations are spoken with the refrain of the hymn as the people’s response.

Psalm: To You, O Lord – M. Haugen

POG: Christ, Be Our Light – B. Farrell (GA-404) also in AOV2

Communion: Bread of Life, Hope of the World – B. Farrell (GA-199) also in AOV1

Sending Forth: Wait for the Lord – Taize (GA283) – sing refrain 3 times; no verses
