Gathering Song: Glory and Praise to Our God GA 417
    Psalm: (read)
Preparation of the Gifts: How Great Thou Art AOV1 94
Communion: I’ll Be Always Loving You AOV1 82
Thanksgiving: Be still, my soul (Finlandia) Together in Song 123
Recessional: Though the Mountains May Fall GA 453

During November, we choose our Thanksgiving music.
GA 237 “Farewell” is also set to Finlandia, but the text “Be still, my soul” works much better for this week

(I am not enthusiastic about “Though the Mountains may Fall” so it went at a fairly fast pace and did not last too long.)

It’s really a folk guitar song isn’t it with only two beats to the bar. I just hit the second and fourth beats with my strumming and busk it. I like Dan Schutte’s music generally and this is a functional piece of music that is much loved by some and tolerated by others.

I think I’d struggle with Finlandia on my twelve string though!

      cheers

      Geoff

  6. Mark Leung says:

To me, “Though the mountain may fall” has the feel of Skimbleshanks from Cats, which I really like.

I suspect Finlandia works well a capella with just the melody, or soprano and bass voices. Must try it at home … D’Arne and I both really like the piece. I leave the other voices out because there is just the two of us.
