Christmas 2022

We were due to play for the Vigil here in Tasmania this Saturday night, but I caught Covid didn’t I, so I’m very prepared for next year, and others will kindly take over. My sister suggested I celebrate Orthodox Christmas when I recover.

We were going to use carols before mass and during mass around our usual mass setting (Taylor’s St Francis) so nothing special, except I love singing the Christmas Psalm and it would have been nice to introduce Farrell’s joyous song down here.

If any correspondents wish to add their selections please do, remembering that it is a good resource for our future selves.

Merry Christmas all.

  1. Ryan says:

    Christmas Eve lineup…

Gathering: O Come, All Ye Faithful
Mass Parts: Mass of St. Ann (Bolduc)
Psalm: Today Our Savior is Born (Cortez)
Gifts: O Little Town of Bethlehem (ST. LOUIS)
    Communion: What Child Is This
    Night of Silence (Kantor)/Silent Night
    Closing: Joy to the World

  2. Mary says:

    Christmas Eve:

Gathering: O Come, All Ye Faithful
Kyrie – Mass of the Sacred Heart (Smith)
Psalm: Today Today is born the Saviour – Cooney
    Gospel Ac: Hallelujah – Coen
    Gifts: Away in a Manger
    HH: Glendalough
MoF: O Come let us adore Him
Communion: O Holy Night + Silent Night
    Closing: Mary’s Boy Child

  3. My group looks after music at the Saturday Vigils, but the “youth” group does the Christmas Vigil, which is fair enough, as it’s geared as a “family” Mass. So this is my “theoretical” selection;

Gathering: CWB2:267 O Come, All Ye Faithful [Oakeley / ADESTE FIDELES]
Gifts: CWB2:266 O Little Town of Bethlehem [Brooks / SAINT LOUIS (rather than FOREST GREEN)]
Communion (Night): CWB2:270 Silent Night [Young / STILLE NACHT]
Communion (Day): CWB2:273 Unto Us a Child Is Born [Dearmer / PUER NOBIS NASCITUR]
Communion (if second hymn needed): CWB2:533 Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence [Moultrie / PICARDY]
Recessional: CWB2:265 Joy to the World [Watts / ANTIOCH]
