Herman Stuempfle Jnr wrote the text of this, the umpteenth hymn set to Beethoven’s “Song of Joy”. It was used last week at RS’s parish. Choosing a familiar tune is an excellent way to encourage participation but I think it puts a lot of pressure of the words to live up to famous tune.
