Glory in the Cross G3 501

In my survey of Gather 3rd ed, I am in the section of music for specific celebrations and I’m just doing those songs that I haven’t already blogged from other collections.

Holy Thursday gets this song that faces stiff opposition from Dan Schutte’s classic. The text has a refrain which is from ICEL’s Rite of Holy Week, and verses trasnlated from the c6th original written by Venantius Fortunatus. It is set by Steven R. Janco.

The text is in GIA’s preview where you can also purchase the sheet music.

I like the tune a lot, but the verses are meant to be a capella, which does not help BIAB. In the absence of written chords I put in some extremely approximate ones and dropped the backing back to just some strings for the verses. There is an instrumental lead in to each verse to smooth the key change.
