Go, Silent Friend

I’ve been tidying up and found some music that I had forgotten about.

Since I am overdosing on Praise and Worship music from The Source New Songs at the moment I’m coming up for air and refreshment from the great John Bell.

I don’t know why I never blogged this song when I was doing “Singing Along with Ed” at my previous church some years ago, but it came up because we were watching Bell’s “Singing the Unsung” DVD ( highly recommended) in which he explained the genesis of this text.

It is a wonderful text for a funeral, with his arrangement of LONDONDERRY AIR as the tune. Since the tune is well known, people of diverse backgrounds can sing it at a funeral, the only stumbling block being the range of the piece.

The text is here and the sheet music is available at GIA and in Gather Comprehensive.

You know the tune but I did a backing in any case.

An excerpt from “Singing the Unsung”.

Just because I like the tune, here is the very wonderful My Friend the Chocolate Cake performing Danny Boy.
