Entrance: Alleluia! Love is Alive. (Angrisano, Manibusan, Hart)
Psalm 21 (McKenna)
I will praise you Lord, in the assembly of your people.
Gifts: We Walk by Faith (Haugen) AOV 1/63
Communion: Unless a Grain of Wheat (Farrell) AOV 1/35
Thanksgiving: A New Commandment (Unknown)
Recessional: Celtic Alleluia – Recessional Version (O’Carroll/Walker) AOV 1/13
This is OCP’s preview of the “Sending Forth” version with the lyrics.
This is part of my review of David Haas songs in my copy of Gather Comprehensive that have not already turned up from AOV or elsewhere on my blog.
It is a song that can be used in most liturgies, especially with a commissioning aspect.
The refrain is singable but the verses go up to Eb -the groaners like me will take it down from Bb to G.
The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at GIA.
GIA comments:
This song is a call to discipleship and service based on Matthew 16:24–28. A great choice for reflection during confirmations
and ordinations.
You can learn it by singing along to my BIAB backing:
This is a bilingual song by David Haas, with the Spanish translation by Ronald Krisman. It is a song for commissioning, gathering and sending.
I can cop a line “Blest are we, chosen people of God,” if it is followed by “called to serve!”
The sheet music can be purchased at GIA where the lyrics are hidden in the preview.
This is David Haas’s setting of his paraphrase of Numbers 6:24-26. He has adapted ADORE TE DEVOTE for the tune.
The text and sheet music are in the page scans at Hymnary and the priest has a verse followed by the assembly.
My backing has made up chords.
I suspect other settings are more in use.
David Haas based this song on Luke 11:1-13, 17:5. My copy is in Gather Comprehensive.
The text lends itself to preparation of the gifts. The verses vary the tune a little and go high enough to ask for a cantor but the refrain is singable enough.
The text is here.
GIA have the sheet music for sale here, where they recommend the piece for Lent.
This is more from the David Haas songs in my copy of Gather Comprehensive that I haven’t come across before.
This is a song of thanksgiving that really could be used in many liturgical settings – gathering, sending forth, communion etc. GIA also mention RCIA and marriage and I’m sure it would work there as well.
The text is at cantus mundi and the sheet music can be purchased at GIA.
It is reasonably singable despite the wide range of notes in the melody and most uplifting.
This is, obviously, a song of praise, from David Haas.
The verse is call and response between the cantor and the assembly who respond, “We praise you Lord!” There are crossovers between these parts so a cantor is actually needed. The refrain is singable enough for all.
You can buy the sheet music at GIA where the text is hidden in the preview.
My backing has both parts noted. I have ignored the key change for the last verse.
Entrance: Shepherd Me O God (Haugen) AOV 1/33
Psalm 117 (McKenna)
The stone rejected by the builders has become the cornerstone.
Gifts: The Lord is My Shepherd (Boniwell) AOV 1/26
Communion: Like a Shepherd (Dufford) AOV 1/26
Thanksgiving: O Sacred Flame (Marshall)
Recessional: Sing to the Mountains (Dufford) AOV 1/92
This is a real pip from David Haas.
It would be suitable for entrance of Eucharist but the time signature changes in the refrain suggest a choir or a solo. The verses are actually more singable than the chorus. If you have someone who can do Pete Townsend power chords it might help.
The text is in the page scans at Hymnary and the sheet music can be purchased at GIA.
I struggled with the chords on this one and couldn’t figure out the intro.
I should have watched Chris Brunelle’s clip to watch his hands in the intro:
This is another of the David Haas songs that I found in my copy of Gather Comprehensive with which I was unfamiliar. I want to find the songs that weren’t in or came after As One Voice.
This is a gathering song with relevance for the Easter season.
The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at GIA.
My copy of Gather Comprehensive is melody line so the chords in my backing are made up and may be approximate.
