Wherever You Go (Haas)

Ryan will singing this at a wedding this weekend.  I only knew of Norbet’s setting of Ruth and that one has a recitation to deal with, so this one has to be worth a look.

David Haas has written a lovely wedding song and I suppose I haven’t heard it before because I don’t go to many weddings.

The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased from GIA. It is 860 in my copy of Gather Comprehensive.

I’ve whipped up a simple backing on BIAB.

There are lots of Youtube versions from weddings if you wish to look further.

I Rejoiced VAO 2/285

This is Feargal King’s setting of Psalm 122 in Voices As One Volume 2..  It has three different tunes for the verses the cantor has to learn.  There are harmony lines in the refrain and second verse.  The third verse is longer and bears no musical resemblance to the rest of the song. The refrain is very simple so the assembly should join in.

The sheet music can be purchased at WLP where the text is in their sample pages. There is a sound sample to listen to here.

I did my backing before I heard the sample but must have known it was a rock song with saxophone parts.

I Know That My Redeemer Lives VAO 2/284

Having got to the end of Gather Australia, I’ll put it to one side.  There are a few Eucharist songs in the collection that I haven’t got around to, but not many, and I’ll tidy them up in the future.

Before I got sick last year I was surveying the WLP collection Voices as One Volume 2. I intend to resume that attempt.

I have already attended to:

282 I Can Only Imagine

283 I Could Sing of Your Love Forever

…which leads us to a David Haas song I haven’t heard before in a Country/Gospel/Swing style.

You can find the text at Hymnary.

It’s a GIA copyright so you can buy the sheet music there.

My backing keeps it simple at 100 bpm.

Choirs showing it’s very singable:

The God of All Eternity (Gather Australia 555)

This is the last song in the book. They chose to end it with a hymn for the New Year.

John Bell’s text indeed does suits New Years Day but verses 2, 3 & 4 would make a fine recessional. You can find the words and melody line at Hymnary.

He set it to the traditional tune O WALY WALY, which I have blogged elsewhere, but I have done a new backing because his arrangement has rather dark harmonic effects that don’t sound familiar.

The mix is lousy but the sentiment fits:

Lord of Earth and All Creation (Gather Australia 554)

This Australian hymn has a text by Michael and Honor Thwaites and is set to BENNELONG by Robert Boughen.

The text is here (page 3) and Godsongs have more details.

The God of All Grace (Manalo)

This is another one from RS’s parish that is new to me.  Ricky Manalo has written a hymn suitable for both gathering or leaving.

It is very singable but would be a little more so brought down from Ab to G – and easier for guitarists (otherwise capo 1 it is).

The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at OCP.

One Lord (Soper)

This one popped up at RS’s parish last week. It is by Scott Soper and would be liturgically apt for Entrance, Communion and Recessional.

This one is also child friendly.

The sheet music can be purchased at OCP where the text is in their preview.

BIAB had fun with it:

Litany of the Saints (Gather Australia 552)

John Becker’s very useful litany is not feasible on BIAB as you will adapt it for your local circumstances but it is certainly worth a recommendation nonetheless.

The text is here and the sheet music is available at OCP.

Magnificat WOODLANDS (Gather Australia 550)

I’ve actually blogged this already under the name of “Tell Out My Soul.”

I didn’t realise that until I made a new backing so here it is:
