Your assembly will need to be very syncopation tolerant to participate here.
The sheet music can be purchased at WLP where the text is in their sample.
My backing is funky BIAB.
His version gives a better idea of how to get from the verse back to the chorus. The trick is to imagine a grunt after “Holy Holy” and before “In every age.”
This message might get lost in the comments section so I’ll put it up here for comment:
Does anyone have the hymn for Solemnity of Sts Peter and Paul in the Liturgy of the Hours? The hymn is “What fairer light is this than time itself doth own”.
This is a fine solo vehicle from David Yackley. The text reads like a personal prayer and I doubt it has any liturgical use. The often cliched bridge into the key change and refrain is more effective than usual here.
The sheet music can be purchased at WLP where the text is in their sample.
Do not stand and stare in wonder unto the sky above.
You have seen the wondrous glory of the risen Lord of Love,
and just as you have seen Him ascend into the skies
So shall the living savior return before your eyes.
Alleluia! Alleluia! We praise our God and King!
Alleluia, alleluia, Your people ever sing!
On his throne in highest heaven our Savior takes His place,
now and always on the Mercy Seat, the source of endless grace.
Though not only there we seek Him; never far from us is He.
We know the Lord is with us, if we have faith to see.
Neither staring up in wonder, nor hiding like the dead,
we will find Him here together in breaking of the bread.
All you servants of the Most High now sing and clap your hands,
For the Lord that once was crucified is Prince of all the lands.
Sound the trumpet, sing together, as our Savior mounts His throne,
And hear the voice that calls us a people of His own.
Alleluia to the Father and to His only Son,
Alleluia to the Spirit, Eternal Three in One!
This is a gospel style setting of Psalm 95 by W. Clifford Petty. I think every composer has had a crack at this one but if your assembly does gospel then this is the one for you.
The sheet music is available at WLP where the text is in their sample and a snippet can be listened to.
Chris Wroblewski thought the version of this song with music by Brett Ballard was not as good as the one with the tune LIVING GOD by Don Clément Jacob. The text is at Hymnary.
The two versions are very different and will suit different assemblies.
I have it in the Guitar Accompaniment Book 931 and it can purchased at OCP and GIA in their own copyrightable arrangements.
I haven’t blogged a slow burn P&W song like this for a while. John Angotti’s song is a solo +/- choir vehicle with marginal liturgical use – possibly at a second rite I suppose, but is an emotional piece and has echoes for backup singers and a bridge and crescendo’s for maximum effect etc etc.
The sheet music is at WLP where the text is in their sample.
Since I enter the melody a note at a time into BIAB these sort of songs take a lot longer to do – in fact the easier to enter notes the more singable the tune in general.
Angotti’s version complete with key change and vocal gymnastics recalls Barry Manilow:
This is a song for Eucharist and with nine verses covers just about all liturgical bases.
The tune is by Brett Ballard. The text is by Bernard Geoffroy (? translated) but it appears he was assisted for this version by Alan Hommerding on verse 2 and Brett Ballard on verses 6-9. There are other versions and other settings with fewer verses.
The sheet music is at WLP where there is a sample to listen to.
Some of the text is at Godsongs, where is attributed to anonymous.
I've worked my way through the As One Voice books and other collections making backings on Band in a Box to help me (& you if you're interested) learn new songs for church. This is aimed at churches and musicians that own the collections but haven't exploited them fully. If you don't have them they are certainly worth buying. This site is educational, nonprofit and designed to enhance the commercial prospects of songwriters. This site does not distribute copyrighted sheet music.
