Be Glorified VAO 2/210

This is a fun P&W song by Chris Tomlin, Louis Giglio and maybe Jesse Reeves. It is a solo piece and not suitable for an assembly except maybe the repetitions of “be glorified in me”.

The text is here and the sheet music is available at musicnotes. If you have a WLP licence you can get Ed Bolduc’s arrangement at WLP.

Mine is funk-lite.

Be Still VAO 2/209

David Kauffman wrote this song in Voices As One Vol 2 loosely based on Psalm 46.

It is designed for a cantor to sing the verses but they are within the range of an assembly with the warning that each verse has subtle melody changes awaiting the unwary. Still, its a lovely song.

The text is here and while Ed Bolduc’s arrangement for WLP only appears available to subscribers, musicnotes has alternative arrangements for sale online.

Be Still and Know That I Am God VAO 2/208

Steven C. Warner of the Notre Dame Folk Choir has written this lovely song in Voices as One Vol 2, which is suitable for Lent and Funerals.

The sheet music is at WLP and the lyrics are in their sample.

My worry with their material is that an assembly is going to be hard pressed to sound anywhere as good as the original. Nevermind – sing along with my backing and see how you go. I couldn’t fit all Warner’s chords in to BIAB but it doesn’t seem to to be an issue.

As the Deer VAO 2/207

I’ve already put a backing up for this here using an arrangement I found on the net, but this is a much more usable arrangement of Martin Nystrom’s song by Ed Bolduc. The lyrics are still a fairly poor use of the psalm.

Awake to the Day VAO 2/206

This is really great advent song by Ed Bolduc and John Barker. It has more subtlely than some of the 6/8 seas shanties about and nice instrumental frills if you are up to them.

The sheet music can be purchased from WLP and the lyrics are in the sample there.

Alleluia! VAO 2/205

This song is a recasting of Henry Dyke’s “Joyful Joyful We Adore You” by Paul L. Berrell with addition of a chorus by Berrell and a rock beat.

The text is at Hymnary for the verses. The chorus is slight enough, “Alleluia! Praise and glory for the gift of each day with one voice we pray: Alleluia! Sing the story of the one love unceasing: Alleluia!”

I’ve done a rock backing:

I can find no sign of the sheet music except in Voices As One Volume 2. Sadly, while looking for information on this composer it appears he was convicted of child sex offences, which possibly explains blank biography pages and the lack of availability of his compositions online.

Anointing, Fall on Me VAO 2/204

This is a gospel song by Donn Thomas with a lot of repetition. The version on You Tube has specific lyrics about Pentecost that might make it more obviously suitable for that liturgy, but it is a song about the Spirit in any case.

The lyrics in this arrangement are the same as here. If you don’t want to buy it in “Voices As One” collection sheetmusicplus have it in lots of others. WLP have it available for people with their annual licence.

You could also learn it from this clip:

My backing is more Soul than Gospel.

All I Need VAO 2/203

I’ve started a survey of the Voices As One Vol 2 book from WLP.

201 Above All

202 All the Ends of the Earth

This song, “All I Need” in its original form was written by Lincoln Brewster, Danny Chambers and Israel Houghton and it is a praise and worship song. The lyrics for that version are here. This WLP version adds a third verse by Ed Bolduc that adds liturgical themes, “table”, “real presence” and “bread and wine”.  Whether that makes it a liturgical song I really doubt as it is so self referential.

The sheet music is available for those with a WLP licence here where they recommend it for certain weeks of the year.

My backing is a lightly jazz ballad:

Original Catholic Liturgical Music in the Creative Commons

I’ve decided to put my original music up at a new blog site.

There will be some music that I’ve already posted here but also songs that have been lying around for some time so by all means have a look if you are interested. I hope to have a fair few songs up over time.

The site is here.

(NB This site seems to have died and I decided not to fix it.)
