The King of Glory

I thought I must have already posted this one, as we have used it ourselves in the past, but as I found nothing I must be mistaken. RS’s parish used it on Palm Sunday and that makes sense.

It is by William F. Jabusch and has never been a favourite of mine as I think it is hard for an assembly not to destroy it in the the execution. Too slow and it drags, but at a decent speed it is hard to be light enough.

The lyrics are at spiritandsong and the generous sound sample there sounds more faux medieval than Israeli folk song. The sheet music is available to purchase for download at OCP.

I liked it more when I gave up and just rocked it up a little.

Jesus, You Are the Bread

I’m still catching up on songs posted in Lenten liturgies, but this one from Chris’s parish is actually a fine communion hymn that was new to me.  Written by Bernadette Farrell, it is one of her lesser known pieces.

I found the strong text in this service handout (page 3), which attributes the copyright to GIA. This is odd because OCP have the sheet music for sale (but not for download) and also as part of Farrell’s “Restless Is the Heart” collection.

I had to work out the chords by putting it through BIAB and then guessing the melody.

My approximate backing:

Transfiguration

This song, that is obviously suitable for “The Transfiguration of the Lord”, was pressed into service for the second week of Lent where it matches the Gospel, at RS’s parish. The music is by Ricky Manalo. The text is by Brian Wren.

The sheet music is at OCP. The text is in the sample there.

God of Mercy and Compassion…again

I’ve already blogged this song recently but I was playing with a MIDI file I found on the web and put it through lots of changes in BIAB and come up with all these odd dissonances.

Led By the Spirit GAB 276

This is more Lenten goodness from our correspondents. This is a fine song by Bob Hurd to the tune Kingsfold.

The text is here and OCP have the sheet music for purchase.

My backing has Craig S. Kingsbury’s descant line in the fourth verse, which you can find in the preview at OCP.

In the Land There is a Hunger

I’m continuing with the Lenten songs from correspondent’s music liturgies.  This song is by Mike Lynch (or Ukulele Mike Lynch).

The sheet music is available at OCP and the text in the sample there.

Tantum Ergo

This song is on the same page of the Army and Navy Hymnal of 1921 as O Salutaris that I blogged yesterday (see Hymnary).  It is also written by Thomas Aquinas .
