Lord, You Are Good VAO 1/58

This is an Ed Bolduc song.  The verses are based on Psalm 86.

The text is in the sample at WLP where the sheet music can be purchased and you can hear a snippet of the song.

My backing hasn’t really got the 2/2 feel right.

Sweet Sacrament Divine

This is another song from the Easter liturgies in the comments box. I had never heard it and I thank the correspondent for my continuing education.

The text is by Francis Stanfield and the tune is a traditional tune called DIVINE MYSTERIES and a fine tune it is too. There are lots of versions of the sheet music on the net including here and here.

This is the version I found with chords in D.

SweetSacramentDivine (1)

My backing uses a recorder sound that I thought was a good idea at the time.

Look to the One VAO 1/57

This Ed Bolduc song would work for Advent in particular.  The third verse is more of a bridge exhorting us to prepare the way.

The text is in the sample at WLP where the sheet music can be purchased and a snippet listened to.

The guitars in my backing are rather noisier than they need to be.

This version might be a little slow.

At the Cross Her Vigil Keeping

Looking at the Easter liturgies that were put up in the comments, I found many songs I’d never heard of that I went looking for. I’ll be interspersing them with backings from Voices As One until they run out.

This one is also called Stabat Mater and is a very old text with nearly as ancient a tune.

The text is by Jacopone da Todi (13th century) translated by Edward Caswell. The music is by Maintzisch Gesangbuch (1661). Hymnary has all the information and various public domain versions of the sheet music. There are minor variations in the hymn and I have used the one in Voices United.

I could just do traditional songs with appalling MIDI church organ sounds like I have in the past, but I wound up with a dodgy cello instead.

Lift Your Hearts to the Holy One VAO/1/56

Deanna Light and Paul A Tate have written a trinitarian song with a bit a rhythm in case you’ve heard enough of Fr Frank Andersen’s “Trinity Song” for now — nice song though that is.

The text is here where you should click the link to hear what I assume is the Assumption College Chapel choir’s rousing rendition of the song. The lyrics are also in the sample at WLP where the sheet music can be purchased and a snippet of the song can be heard.

I let the BIAB brass go for this song.

Daily Daily Sing To Mary

Kenneth asked for a backing of this song. Hymnary has information about the song and sheet music for the various settings for the text.

The one he suggested is in 6/4 time, which is not great for Band in a Box. I think this is the best I can do for it and that isn’t great.

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

I came across this chestnut while looking for something else.  It’s a chorus we used to sing in my Presbyterian youth written by Helen H Lemel.  There are verses to it but I’ve never sung them so I just made a backing of the refrain for old times sake.

Live In Me VAO 1/55

Ed Bolduc has written a song for when the “I am the vine” readings come up, but it is also broadly Eucharistic.

The text is in the sample at WLP where you can purchase the sheet music.

If you listen to the snippet at WLP it is MOR smooth ballad style but with the syncopation and triplets it struck me as a bit Latin.

Bread for the World by Marty Haugen

Marty Haugen will be in town (Brisbane) in October 2015 for a conference run by the APMN.

Here is a song of his that is unpublished except on his site where you can download the sheet music for free.

It was written for Bread for the World.

Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation’s decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. By changing policies, programs and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, we provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities where we live.

This group is still learning it, so why not join them.
