We Will Serve the Lord SAS 1/145

I suppose this is meant to be a recessional but it sounds more a solo vehicle with perhaps a singalong chorus.  It is by Rory Cooney and he has fun finding rhymes for Lord (hoard, bored, sword and horde – as in pagan horde).

The text is at spiritandsong and it can be purchased for download at OCP.

My backing is a bit electronic.

The choir appears to be having trouble staying together in this clip and I suspect it is because the song does not lend itself to this task.

Back in the nineties I used to use this song regularly as a recessional (with a relatively young congregation) using his original cassette recording (which is much more in your style than the composer’s YouTube recording) as we had no musicians. We found it very easy to sing with, and I had no problems singing along with your backing. I’ve never been a fan of gospel-style improvisation at Mass – it’s hard enough to get people to sing the regular songs!
