All To Jesus I Surrender

Trish let me know some of the music selections for Easter at her parish. I couldn’t find them all but this one has a text by Judson W. Van De Venter and music by W. S. Weeden.

I think it is mainly used in Protestant traditions, but you could see its use for RCIA and commissioning liturgies.

My backing started with the BIAB file at Small Church Music, but its current state is all my fault.

1 All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
Refrain:
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
2 All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine. [Refrain]
3 All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me. [Refrain]

Some versions of the text have more verses than this.

    I should have mentioned: Because He Lives is listed on CCLI, song No. 16880; Alleluia Love Is Alive is from Spirit & Song 177, listed on OneLicense, also now on CCLI song No. 7007289. Because we are only a small community, I quite often use or omit certain verses, depending on the season the song is being used for, especially for long ones such as I Surrender All. (Robin Mark has a beautiful version of this one.) Words and music are PD.

      Many thanks, Trish.

      We are using “Alleluia! Love is Alive” as well – I blogged it here:

      I was stumped by “Lord I Am Not Worthy” and “Down in Adoration”. I found Matt Maher’s “Adoration” while researching your selections, which I found interesting, and will do backing for that.

      We are limited to One Licence songs but it is nice to find things in the public domain as well.

      cheers

    Hi Geoff, Both (O) Lord I Am Not Worthy and Down in Adoration are PD, though Matt Mahers arrangement and revamped words are not. (I like listening to Matts version, but thought it was too upbeat to use for transference of the Blessed Sacrament.) Some time ago, I came across a copy of The Open Hymnal, Version 2014.06, which I could download free from the net, and it contains hundreds of PD hymns with full music notes. Some of the songs are extremely old, but I’ve found some good ones in there. The print is better than some that are available on Hymnary.org, as often those are scans of very aged documents! O Lord I Am Not Worthy is in the Open Hymnal.

    Never noticed until I saw the lyrics of this song, but the bridge of Run to the Cross by Josh Blakesley, Sarah Hart, Sarah Kroger, and Mia Fieldes is taken from the first two lines of this hymn.

  4. the song is called I Surrender All. I have the music if you want.
