God Is Love GAB 179 & 180

I’m switching back to my copy of OCP’s Guitar Accompaniment Book circa 2005 as a break from the WLP house style – that is until I’m sick of the OCP house style.  I’ll be able to skip a lot as I’ve done many of them elsewhere from there appearances in AOV and the liturgies posted here.

I can’t see I’ve ever blogged this one with a text by Timothy Rees, which you can find at Hymnary.

179 is the text set to ABBOT’S LEIGH a tune I have blogged here.

180 is set to ST CECILIA by Gerard Chiusano and don’t think I’ve ever run across that tune.

God’s Holy Gifts

This is a Dan Schutte song that is done at RS’s parish that I was going to do some time ago and was reminded by it being in their Corpus Christi mass last week.

It is a general song for Eucharist and a specific song for Corpus Christi. It is stately and best done at a restrained pace.

The sheet music can be purchased at OCP where the text is in their preview.

Lord, I Come VAO 2/306

This is a devotional song by Billy Funk that I doubt will be a lot liturgical use. Not my cup of tea really but I’m sure in the right setting it hits the spot.

The text is here.

The sheet music is available here.

I made a backing:

Lord, I Believe VAO 2/305

John Polce has a least written something with an obvious liturgical use.

I can’t find the text or sheet music for this setting of the Credo anywhere on the net, but if you haven’t got Voices As One Vol 2 and you need it you might be best to contact the author at his site.

Blessed Are You Mapapalad Kayo

Rex alerted me to this joyful song of the Beatitudes.

It is by Ricky Manalo and Jesse Manibusan and has a delightful folk lilt to it that sounds very singable to me except for the long held Cs. There are two Filipino phrases in the song that translate as “rejoice and be glad” and “blessed are you”. It was written for the Pope’s visit to the Phillipines in 2015.

The sheet music is at OCP where the text is in their sample. I note that OCP used to put up their lyrics but now they have followed GIA and WLP by not having lyrics except in their sample music.

I left the descant out of my backing, but there is all eight verses and the repeats at the end.

Lord, Bring Me Home VAO 2/304

This is a bilingual English/Spanish setting of Psalm 304 by Paul A Tate. The refrain for the assembly is singable and sweet. The cantor has three verses with the same tune before it branches off on a tangent in the fourth verse. The final refrain is repeated and has a simple descant.

The sheet music is at WLP where the text is in their sample.

My backing has the descant.

Let the Weight of Your Glory Fall VAO 2/303

I’ve already blogged: 302 Let the River Flow

303 is a reflective song by Steve Merkel.

The text is here and the sheet music can be downloaded by subscribers at WLP.

Let Me Be Your Bethlehem VAO 2/301

I’m still in Voices As One Vol 2.

I’ve already blogged:

299 Just Like You

300 Let Everything That Has Breath.

Danielle Rose has written a bluegrass song for Christmas or Advent that is another solo vehicle. It would be lovely as a turn in a carols get together.

The text is here.

WLP will sell you the sheet music here.

I don’t need much encouragement to unleash fiddle, banjo and mandolin in BIAB.
