Jesus, Hope of the World VAO 2/298

This song by Deanna Light and Paul A. Tate is an Advent song but really could also work as a gentle entrance song.

The sheet music is at WLP where the text is in their sample and also here.

Jesus VAO 2/297

I suppose this was John Angotti’s party piece.  It has everything – echoes of JC Superstar, extended rapping and a catchy singalong girl group chorus. I have no idea where it would useful but it isn’t going to be in any liturgy I can think of.

WLP has the sheet music and the text is in their sample.

I did do a backing even though BIAB CAN’T RAP.

Come, O Spirit of God

This astonishing work was sung at RS’s parish for Pentecost.

If you had a multilingual parish coming together for this feast it would be spectacular because the vene spiritu sancte is sung in several layers building up on top of each other in different languages. It resonates with the readings for Pentecost beautifully, with everyone hearing the message in their own language.

It is by Ricky Manalo who explains it’s use in the performance notes in the sample here, where the text is also accessible.

The music can be purchased at OCP.

With too many vocal lines I’ve just done a backing with which you can sing any of the melodies. There is a two bar introduction then the backing is just repeated.

Listen to the this version to get the flavour:

In This Bread VAO 2/296

Because this Eucharist song is by Paul L Berrell, who as far as I can tell is in prison, WLP have wiped all traces of the song from their site.

So for the very narrow demographic of those who have Voices as One Volume 2 and don’t mind using his work I made a backing.

Come, O Holy Spirit Come

Since it is Pentecost today it is well worth noting this text by Owen Alstott set to “Hymn to Joy” that was used at Ryan’s parish.

Since the you know the tune today is a good day to sing along to the words which are here. (scroll down)

The sheet music is available at OCP.

One Sacrifice of Christ

I noted this new song for Ascension that was used at RS’s parish recently (for Ascension funnily enough).

It is by Rick Modlin and Robert Feduccia and I think it is fair enough song for Eucharist any week but does relate especially to the reading of the Feast of the Ascension. It is definitely liturgical and singable.  It doesn’t need the key change for the third verse but it’s fine if you want to use it.

The sheet music can be purchased at OCP and the text is in their sample here.

My backing has the key change if you want to sing along to learn it.

In You, Lord VAO 2/295

Continuing my seemingly endless survey of Voices As One Vol 2, I can skip:

294 In the Light

as I have blogged that already.

295 is another pop song from David Yackley who writes in a devotional style mostly suitable for solo use and not for liturgical purposes.

The sheet music can be purchased at WLP where the text is in their sample.

BIAB had fun with this one:

El Shaddai

Ethan’s parish used this song recently. It is an oddity in that Michael Card and John Thompson have written a bilingual Hebrew/English text.

The text is here. It’s a psalm of praise I suppose, but it sounds a solo vehicle. It won awards but is not to my taste.

It was hit for Amy Grant:

In Every Age VAO 2/293

A light funk psalm of praise from Ed Bolduc.

Your assembly will need to be very syncopation tolerant to participate here.

The sheet music can be purchased at WLP where the text is in their sample.

My backing is funky BIAB.

His version gives a better idea of how to get from the verse back to the chorus. The trick is to imagine a grunt after “Holy Holy” and before “In every age.”
