I Trust In You, My Faithful Lord (I Will Bless You, Lord) SNS 25

In this song by Darlene Zschech she is blessing God and I’m sure it is appreciated.

This song does not do anything to reduce my irrational dislike of most Hillsong music.

The text is here and the sheet music is available at musicnotes.

My backing is so relaxed it’s pretty much supine.

A solo love song to God:

In My Life Proclaim Your Glory (Lord of All Mercy) SNS 24

This is a lesser known P&W song from Geoff Bullock. It is usually belted out but would repay gentler treatment.

The text is in this pdf and the sheet music can be purchased in a collection here. You can hear a snippet at songselect.

Let Us Go to the Altar

This is a Dan Schutte song I hadn’t heard of that is used at RS’s parish. It is a (very) forceful song that is a natural for an entrance hymn.

The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at OCP. The snippet there is almost overbearing so I’d tone it down a little.

The original – not so great:

Better:

Less overbearing:

Nice organ music:

In His Presence There Is Joy (Holy Ground) SNS 23

This song from The Source New Songs is by Geron Davis. It is a midtempo P&W song that sounds like a solo vehicle. As is often the case, it is better known by the subsidiary title.

The version in SNS just has verse and chorus but some versions have a preamble as well.

The text is here and you can purchase the sheet music at musicnotes.

Lord, Who at Thy First Eucharist

This song is also known as “At That First Eucharist” or even “Thou, Who At Thy First Eucharist” has words by William Turton and is set to the tune UNDE ET MEMORES by William Henry Monk. It was used at RS’s parish recently.

Godsongs has the text and the sheet music can be purchased at OCP.

I Know He Rescued My Soul ( My Redeemer Lives) SNS 22

This is a Reuben Morgan song from Hillsong with the required number of titles – two.

Text here.

Buy sheet music at musicnotes.

My backing gives it the fast gospel treatment and BIAB is amazing.

I Am Yours (Pure Like You) SNS 21

The Source New Songs is a collection I bought some years ago looking for songs for church, not realising that few, if any, were liturgically useful.

That said there are some good songs here including this one by David Gate.

The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at onlinesheetmusic.

I had fun with this laid back backing:

I Will Enter His Gates

This song was used in Ojilong Ronald’s parish in Uganda. It is by Leona Van Brethorst and shares some of the tune from “Blowing in the Wind”.

The text is at Hymnary and the sheet music can be purchased at onlinesheetmusic.

Humble Yourselves SNS 20

This is a chant like P&W song by Dave Bilbrough that has a lot of effect for just a few words. “Cast all anxiety” is a phrase that resonates and it would be a nice piece for a second rite of reconciliation.

The text is here and the sheet music can be purchased at onlinesheetmusic.

How Do I Know You Love Me? (I Look to the Cross) SNS 19

I have strayed from liturgical music back into the Praise and Worship songs in The Source New Songs.

This bright song from Mark Altrogge reminded me of La Isla Bonita by Madonna but on checking it was just the rhythm. As usual it has two titles and is better known by the alternative one.

The text, a generous sound sample and links to a free lead sheet are at Sovereign Grace Music. This is a great idea by the way.

I couldn’t find full sheet music except in this collection, but it may be out there. It is is more engaging and inventive than most of this genre.

My backing is less Latin and more funk-lite.
