I’m back looking at Marty Haugen songs from Gather Comprehensive that I have yet to blog from other sources.

This is a powerful song of lament with a text by Haugen and set to PASSION CHORALE by Hans Leo Hassler (C16).

The tune was used in folk music and eventually became part of another lament, Paul Simon’s “American Tune”.

I got the BIAB file from Small Church Music and edited it and changed it to my taste.

Just so you know this is what the music file from Small Church Music sounds like with his introduction and breaks between verses.

This song isn’t by Marty Haugen. It is a St Louis Jesuit song from the 70s used at Ryan’s church recently that I hadn’t come across before. This is by John Foley and is a rare OCP copyright in a GIA book Gather Comprehensive.

It is singable song with a lilt to recommend it.

This is wonderful song for Lent by Marty Haugen in Gather Comprehensive. It does require a cantor singing against the assembly so for parishes like mine where we all sing everything it isn’t going to work.

This is another Marty Haugen song from Gather Comprehensive that I haven’t come across before. The text is actually by Susan R. Briehl but wonderfully set by Haugen.

I have blogged a lot of Chris deSilva songs in the last two year and the good news is that he has updated his website with new sheet music.

A highlight is his setting of the Easter Proclamation, which is an epic achievement. I did ask him at the APMN conference in 2017 if he would tackle it and he has done so.

He has melody line and full music at his site along with a sample MP3 to get the idea.

It is in nine parts with nine tunes and most certainty worth a look for anyone who wants to cantor this important text this year.

I’m back in my small project to blog all the Marty Haugen songs in my copy of Gather Comprehensive that I haven’t already covered from other sources like As One Voice.

This is a song with a text by Marty Haugen and a tune he has adapted from O FILII ET FILIAE.

It is joyous and singable as you would expect.
