RS’s parish used this Eucharistic hymn last week and since I hadn’t come across it before so I’ve made a backing for it. The tune and refrain text are by Dominic MacAller and the verses’ lyrics are by Owen Alstott.
The refrain is very long, and that means you might not get more than one or two of the verses done.
I have it in OCP’s Guitar Accompaniment Book. The sheet music can also be purchased for download at OCP. The text is available in their sample.
Kate Keefe is an amazing one woman publishing industry who has written psalms for every week and continent. She also wrote the Mayfield Mass, which I blogged starting here.
She has written an Our Father now to plug that gap in the mass. The sheet music is here.
I’ve done two backings, a shorter one that finishes before the embolus and a longer one with an interlude for the priest’s part.
As we’ve come to expect from Kate her setting is singable, playable and accessible.
One of the services Ryan went to recently featured this Marty Haugen song that I blogged some time ago here, but now that I have the real chords in my new version of Gather Australia, I thought I redo that backing.
It’s a nice song with far too many tunes for the verses and it goes too high for groaners like me.
Ming selected this lovely tune by Marty Haugen from the new Catholic Worship Book 2 to play this weekend. I have it in Gather Comprehensive and it is not a new piece, but being in CWB2 might boost its popularity in Australia.
The assembly will be fine with the refrain but the verses are cantor material I suspect.
The text is Psalm 63, but is also available in the page scans at Hymnary. The sheet music can be purchased at GIA.
My backing is a cello duet from BIAB with a bowed bass and guitar picking added. I had to make up the chords, with BIAB’s help, as I only had a melody line.
* I forgot to look in Gather Australia where it no. 43 and where I could have saved myself a lot of trouble by using the chords found there. The chords BIAB found are close enough though, and it even picked out a Bm6 correctly, which is more than I could have done.
Ryan’s parish used this Michael Joncas song that was new to me recently. I have it Gather Comprehensive (2nd ed) 680 but I had to use BIAB to find me the chords. It is suggested for marriage, RCIA and ordination.
The sheet music can be purchased at GIA. The text is in the page scans at Hymnary.
This is lovely meditative piece with music by Christopher Walker setting Paule Freburg’s text. You could use it at a funeral or as a contemplative piece after communion. It was used at RS’s parish recently.
The sheet music can be purchased for download at OCP. The text is in their sample.
I've worked my way through the As One Voice books and other collections making backings on Band in a Box to help me (& you if you're interested) learn new songs for church. This is aimed at churches and musicians that own the collections but haven't exploited them fully. If you don't have them they are certainly worth buying. This site is educational, nonprofit and designed to enhance the commercial prospects of songwriters. This site does not distribute copyrighted sheet music.
